Background: The agri-food supply chain is crucial for a nation's sustenance and economic stability but faces challenges such as lack of transparency, inefficiencies, and information asymmetry. Integrating Blockchain Database (BCD) technology, along with Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, offers transformative potential. This combination can enhance the Transparent Physical and Information Flow (PHF), thus improving Transparency in the Agri-food Supply Chain (TASC). Objective: This research examines how integrating BCD affects PHF and, in turn, influences TASC in Bangladesh. It is based on two main hypotheses BCD significantly impacts PHF, and a BCD-enhanced PHF subsequently affects TASC. Methods: An analytical framework was designed to explore the integration of BCD technology and its effect on the transparency of Bangladesh's agri-food supply chain. Data analysis followed five stages: Preliminary Data Examination, Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA), Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA), Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), and Hypothesis Testing, utilizing IBM SPSS and IBM AMOS. Data were gathered from 400 stakeholders in the Bangladesh agri-food supply chain. Results and Conclusion: The findings support both hypotheses, showing a significant and positive impact of BCD technology on PHF and, consequently, on TASC. The results highlight the essential role of BCD in enhancing supply chain transparency and operational efficiency. Implications of the Research: This study offers empirical evidence on how blockchain technology can effectively address transparency and efficiency challenges in the agri-food supply chain. It highlights the potential of BCD to enhance decision-making, operational efficiency, and consumer trust within the agricultural sector, particularly in developing countries such as Bangladesh. Originality/Value: This research provides fresh insights into how BCD technologies can enhance transparency and efficiency in the agri-food supply chain. Agriculture is one of the largest employment sectors in Bangladesh, contributing 11.61% of GDP in the fiscal year 2021-22. This sector is contributing significantly even in the toughest situation of COVID-19. Farmers are the main actors behind this contribution. But we have seen farmers not getting a fair price for the vegetables they produce. On the contrary, when the same vegetables are coming to large cities, they are sold at higher prices. Our research tries to identify the potential causes behind the price-increasing issues of vegetables in the existing vegetable supply chain in Bangladesh. We also tried to recommend a solution to reduce the problem so that the farmers can get a better and fair price for the vegetables they produce. In this study, we tried to mention the reasons behind the price-increasing issues after conducting surveys. To conduct our research, we spoke with farmers and middlemen who are actively involved in the vegetable supply chain. Through our survey and after having conversations with them, we found out that both parties (farmers & middlemen) are dissatisfied with the current state. We came to know that the farmers feel the necessity of having a central supply chain system, and the middlemen are talking about the government's involvement in the whole process. When it comes to recommending a solution, we can't do a practical solution regarding the government's involvement. So, we proposed a central supply chain model that will help to minimize the price-increasing issues of vegetables in the vegetable supply chain in Bangladesh.

The study was designed to assess the present status and methods of safe vegetable production at farm level in selected areas of Jashore during January-May, 2023. For the study ninety sample farmer were selected by stratified sampling from three sub-district of Jashore. Average farm size was 0.79 ha in study area. Farmer doing different agronomic management such as weeding, irrigation, spraying, de-topping, stalking, earthing up etc. Farmer used different methods simultaneously such as insecticide spray, bio-pesticide, sex pheromone, yellow trap, white trap, hand picking etc. for controlling insect pest. About sixty-four percent farmer sprayed synthetic pesticide and rest of them used bio control method such as bio-pesticide (bio-chamak, eco-mac, bio-envir, bio-cin), sex pheromone trap, yellow trap and hand picking for control insect pest in their fields. About fifty-eight percent farmer used bio-fertilizer along with organic fertilizer (manure, vermin compost) and seventy-eight percent farmer used chemical fertilizer for vegetable cultivation. Total production cost of country bean was Tk.3,36,579 ha-1, cucumber was Tk.3,25,915 ha-1 and pointed gourd was Tk.4,40,106 ha-1. Among the cost item labor cost was highest. Average yield of country bean was 30.60 tha-1, cucumber was 30.08 tha-1 and pointed gourd was 41.60 tha-1. Highest benefit cost ratio was cucumber (2.13) followed by pointed gourd (2.07) and country bean (1.50), that means safe vegetable cultivation also profitable. Farmer awareness, havoc attack of pest and insect were the main problem for safe vegetable cultivation. Market facilities, demand, value chain, proper price for organic vegetable, and farmer motivation can promote and enhance safe vegetable cultivation.
