Abstract:Reliable estimates of quantiles associated with mid-to-large return periods are required in the everyday practice of Hydrologic Engineering. However, the usually small samples pose numerous challenges for inferring such quantiles. Therefore, augmenting sample sizes via extension techniques could be beneficial for statistical inference. This paper attempts to provide a comprehensive assessment of the performance of a collection of such techniques in estimating rare and extreme quantiles. Regression models, such… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
