Evaluating the efficiency of the GO‐Fe3O4/TiO2 mesoporous photocatalyst for degradation of chlorpyrifos pesticide under visible light irradiation

Abstract: In this work, the photocatalytic activity of the synthesized graphene oxide (GO)‐Fe3O4/TiO2 mesoporous photocatalysts was evaluated using chlorpyrifos (CP) as a contaminant. The nano‐photocatalyst was characterized by X‐ray diffraction, field emission scanning electron microscopy with energy‐dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and specific surface area by the Brunauer–Emmett–Teller method. Using visible light, the GO‐Fe3O4/TiO2 mesoporous photocatalyst was investigated on the degra… Show more

“…Then, the second weight loss happens from 100 to 500 C, which can be assigned to the removal of the labile oxygen-containing functional groups as CO, CO 2 and H 2 O vapors from the sample caused by the destruction of oxygenated functional groups. As expected, Fe 3 O 4 NPs exhibited no obvious mass change with the increase of temperature to 600 C. [25] Compared with GO-Fe 3 O 4 , the differential thermal analysis (DTA) curve of GO-Fe 3 O 4 -PEG shows a broad peak (Figure 6b) in the region of 50-200 C, which verifies PEGylation of GO-Fe 3 O 4 . In addition, a new peak appeared in the DTA curve of GO-Fe 3 O 4 -PEG-Cur compared with GO-Fe 3 O 4 -PEG, confirming the loading of Cur.…”

“…shows two emissions at 352 nm and 800 nm; the former shows strong intensity and can be related to the electron transition from O 2to Ti 4+ . The observed peak at the visible range proposes an ideal composite for photocatalytic activities [25,26]. The DRS shows the bandgap energy of the Ag/TiO 2 /PVA nanocomposite around 2.9 eV, which is lower than the observed bandgap energy for pristine TiO 2 (3.5 eV) [27].…”

“…The maximum photocatalyst dosage that corresponds to the higher activity was estimated by taking a range of photocatalyst dosage between 2.5 -25 mg/ml and keeping other parameters such as pH, time and pesticide concentration constant (Zangiabadi et al 2019).…”

“…The observed results showed that at pH 7 highest percentage of the degradation of the pesticide takes place, followed by pH 5 and 3 as observed with pH 9 and 11 comparatively (Soltani-nehad et al 2019). At acidic pH, the photocatalyst tends to disassemble as Ag + ions dissolutes to move from the rGO interface hence with reduced activity whereas at alkaline pH the degradation of pesticide reduction shall be due to the reduced activity of the OH˙ radical due to its interaction with OHand forms water and Oion (Nekooie et al 2021;Zangiabadi et al 2019;Majhi et al 2018).…”
