Evaluating the effectiveness of a hybrid sorbent resin in removing fluoride from water

Abstract: AB STRACT:In some regions of the world, the concentration of fluoride in groundwater is high. To reduce the amount of fluoride to acceptable drinking water standard, it is highly recommended to treat the water. Fluoride adsorption in aqueous solution by a hybrid resin was studied in this research because of its functional groups likeness with goethite. Kinetic data showed that F adsorption was rapid in the beginning and maximum uptake occurred in within 10 min and equilibrium reached within 100 min. The experi… Show more

“…was found to be positive in groundwater of Dashtestan (Dobaradaran et al 2009b). Fluoride adsorption in aqueous solution by a hybrid resin was studied by Boldaji et al (2009), where this adsorbent had 61 percent efficiency for water with fluoride less than 4 mg/L (Boldaji et al 2009). Iran's drinking water standard is based on the guidelines recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) on drinking water that contains less than 1.5 mg/L of fluoride.…”

“…There are ways to get fluoride, but water is the most important [11][12][13][14]. There are methods to remove fluoride from water that have been reported by researchers [15][16][17][18]. Peckham (2014a;2015b) stated that fluoride intake of more than 0.01 mg/kg body weight/day impacts thyroid gland function because it has adverse effects on iodine.…”

“…Also, it can be produced from cheap and locally available materials (Ochonogor and Ejikeme, 2005;Ejikeme and Ochonogor, 2008;Mahvi, 2008;Okpareke et al, 2009). Ion exchange resins have also been used to remove heavy metals from wastewater (Boldaji et al, 2009;Rafati et al, 2010). The potentials of activated carbon from the seed shell of fluted pumpkin (Telfairia Occidentalis) in accomplishing this pollution abatement is investigated in this work in laboratory.…”
