Objectives The aim of this review was to investigate quality assessment and quantitative information on burning mouth syndrome (BMS) on YouTube™ videos. Methods An electronic search of YouTube™ videos on BMS was performed using subject headings, keywords and synonyms of BMS. For each video, quality information, via the quality assessment score (QAS) and quantitative information, such as the total number of results per term searched, date of upload, clip length, view count, source category (professional, personal, educational, mixed), number of likes and dislikes and YouTube™ category were evaluated. Results The search identified 3768 videos of which only 114 were included in our analysis: the quality of videos was very poor (mean ± standard deviation = 1.76 ± 1.64). The most representative categories were “educational” with 53 (46.5%) videos scoring between 0 and 4 and “mixed” with 24 (21.1%) videos scoring between 0 and 2. Significant differences were found among all four categories in relation to length in seconds (P < 0.001), number of views (P = 0.006) and interaction index (P = 0.001), as well as between “professional” and the other categories and between “educational” and “personal” in relation to length in seconds (P < 0.001), between “educational” and “personal” (P < 0.001) and “personal” and “mixed” category in relation to interaction index (P = 0.003) and between “professional” and “personal” in relation to views per day (P = 0.015). Conclusions A large number of videos regarding BMS have published on YouTube™, with a wide range of distribution regarding their length and views. Unfortunately, they presented unreliable information which is most often scientifically inaccurate. Health care institutions and professionals should be more actively involved in improving high‐quality e‐information about BMS on YouTube™.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the reliability and educational content of YouTube videos concerning injuries to the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) of the knee. Methods: The first 50 videos specific to the PCL identified through the YouTube query posterior cruciate ligament were evaluated by a method of video selection demonstrated to be feasible in prior YouTube studies. Videos were classified by content and upload source. Video reliability was assessed using the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) benchmark criteria (score range 0-5). Video educational content was assessed using the Global Quality Score (GQS) (range 0-4) and the PCL Score (PCLS) (score range 0-18). Analysis of variance was used to determine differences in video reliability and educational content quality based on video content and upload source. Multivariate linear regressions were used to identify predictors of video reliability and educational content quality. Results: The mean number of views per video was 50,477.9 AE 15,036. Collectively, the 50 videos were viewed 14,141,285 times. Video content was classified primarily as information about disease (62.0%). The most common upload sources were physicians (24.0%) and nonphysician health care providers (26.0%). Significant between-group interactions were found between video source and the JAMA score, with physicians and medical sources having significantly higher mean JAMA scores (P ¼ 0.037). Videos uploaded by physicians were an independent positive predictor of greater JAMA scores (b:1.27; P ¼ 0.008). Videos uploaded by a medical source (b:2.06; P ¼ 0.038) were an independent positive predictor of a greater GQS. There were no independent associations between video content category or upload source and the PCLS. Conclusions: Videos concerning the PCL were frequently viewed on YouTube, but the educational quality and reliability of these videos were low. Clinical Relevance: Physicians and health care providers treating PCL pathology should take the initiative to counsel patients about which outside resources are reliable to better inform patients about their treatment decisions. With regard to YouTube videos specifically, providers should caution their patients that this source of information may be unreliable.

Bakcground:YouTube is an important online source of information. And its viewing numbers tend to increase exponentially in extraordinary situations. Our aim in this study was to evaluate the contents of the most frequently viewed YouTube videos during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods:In this study, contents of the most frequently viewed Turkish and English videos regarding COVID-19 pandemics are examined and scored with modified DISCERN, MICI and VPI. Results:The mean DISCERN score of Turkish videos is similar to English videos (2.55±1.40 and 2.43±1.25 respectively). Total MICI score tends to be higher in Turkish videos. 86.9% of all 168 videos and 65.2% of all 23 misleading videos were released by news channels. Average view counts, view ratios, and VPIs of misleading videos are higher than the useful videos. Discussion:Since there is not a peer-review system on YouTube, it is very important for the content of videos that are released through news channels to be accurate because the important messages can be spread among people in society through them. Especially some Turkish videos included many different rumors and faulty statements. During the extraordinary situations such as the pandemics, the videos of official health authorities and international institutions should be more visible in YouTube.
