Diversity of herbs and spices plants and their importance in traditional medicine in the South Aceh District, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 23: 3836-3843. Kluet people are one of the ethnic communities living in Southern Aceh, Indonesia. Various herbs and spices plants are used by the Kluet people as a traditional medicine in treating diseases and disorders. The study aimed to investigate the diversity of herbs and spices plants and their importance in the traditional medical system. It was based on field surveys, plant collection, and semi-structured interviews with the local people. Interviews were performed with 355 informants selected by using the random sampling technique. A total of 30 medicinal plant species, consisting of 18 families, have been documented. Curcuma longa, Kaempferia galanga, Zingiber officinale, Citrus x aurantiifolia, Alpinia galanga, Averrhoa bilimbi, Elettaria cardamomum, Allium sativum, Cocos nucifera, and Syzygium aromaticum are the most popular medicinal plants known by Kluet people. More than 40% of traditional knowledge related to the use of herbs and spices as traditional medicine was obtained from their families/friends/neighbors. Traditional knowledge is thought to decline among generations. It is supposedly due to lifestyle changes as a result of modernization. The documentation and promotion of traditional medicine systems through formal and non-formal education may contribute to the conservation of biodiversity and traditional knowledge.

Local communities in Aceh Tamiang have gained a wealth of medicinal knowledge through practice and experience in their long-term battles with the disease. However, because of a lack of written records and rapid economic development, their traditional medicinal knowledge is under threat. This study investigated medicinal plants and related traditional knowledge of local communities in the Sekerak subdistrict, Aceh Taming, Indonesia. Field surveys, plant collections, and interviews with communities were used in this study. The Snowball Sampling technique was used to select 60 informants for the interviews. A total of 46 medicinal plant species belonging to 40 genera and 26 families were used for medicinal purposes by local communities to treat 28 different diseases. The itch, swelling, cough, and nosebleed were the most commonly treated. With a use-value index of 0.98, Tagetes erecta was the most commonly used medicinal plant by local communities. In addition, local communities identified the leaf (50%) as the most widely used plant part and oral administration (65%) as the most common method of administering traditional medicine. Elders have more knowledge of medicinal plants than younger generations, indicating that traditional knowledge is eroding across generations. However, initiatives to promote and conserve medicinal plants must be improved, particularly among the younger generation. This is required to ensure the availability of medicinal plants and the preservation of traditional knowledge in the future.

Potensi tumbuhan obat yang terdapat di Taman Nasional Kelimutu belumdimanfaatkan secara optimal oleh masyarakat di sekitarnya. Tumbuhan obat tradisional ini biasanya digunakan oleh dukun dan diwariskan turun temurun secara lisan dan menggunakan nama lokal. Hal ini mengakibatkan hilangnya informasi akan tumbuhan obat tersebut pada generasi selanjutnya. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui interaksi masyarakat sekitar dengan keanekaragaman tumbuhan di kawasan TNK dan mengidentifikasi pemanfaatan tumbuhan oleh masyarakat di sekitar TNK. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di kawasan Taman Nasional Kelimutu, Kabupaten Ende, Propinsi Nusa Tenggara Timur dan Desa Waturaka pada bulan Mei 2021. Alat yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini, yaitu: panduan wawancara (kuisioner), alat tulis, kamera, recorder, kalkulator, golok/parang, gunting bunga, kertas label, tali plastik, plastik, daftar pertanyaan responden, dan komputer beserta perlengkapannya. Sedangkan bahan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu alkohol 70%, sampel tumbuhan, sasak bambu dan kertas koran. Subyek penelitian adalah masyarakat Desa Waturaka, Kecamatan Kelimutu Kabupaten Ende. Obyek dalam penelitian ini adalah tumbuhan obat di kawasan Taman Nasional Kelimutu dan dibudidayakan oleh masyarakatdi Desa Waturaka. Penelitian menggunakan metode survey melalui observasi dan identifikasi tumbuhan serta penentuan responden dengan metode purposive sampling yang berjumlah 250 orang, terdiri atas 65 orang pria dan 185 orang wanita. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis dengan menggunakan deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukan terdapat47spesies tanaman obat dari 30famili. Daun merupakan bagian tumbuhan yang paling digunakan sebagai obat-obatan. Famili Zingiberaceae memiliki presentasi penggunaan tertinggi sebesar 85%
