“…The high incidence of the disease among the Chinese has also been the basis for the suggestion that some genetic factor is involved in its causation. In support of this suggestion have been cited: (1) the high relative frequencies found in South China in contrast to those found in North China (Hu and Yang, 1959), especially the very high values found in some population groups in the Kwantung province (Ho, 1972); (2) the increased risk found in many of the South-East Asian countries whose populations have been derived from or influenced by immigrants from South China; (3) maintenance of high risk by Chinese emigrating to far-off countries such as the United States (Zippin et al, 1962;Buell, 1965), Hawaii (Quisenberry and Reimann-Jasinski, 1967) and Australia (Scott and Atkinson, RALAKRISHNAN 1967); and (4) the contrast between the low incidence in the Indians and the moderate to high incidence in the Malays and the Chinese of Singapore. Ho (1972) has also found that relatives of patients with nasopharyngeal cancer have a higher risk for the disease than relatives of patients with other types of cancer.…”
