Objective. Neonatal hyperbilirubinemia is caused by the excessive production of bilirubin and decreased excretion ability in the neonatal period. It leads to a concentration of blood bilirubin that exceeds a certain threshold. Yinzhihuang oral liquid (YZH) is a traditional Chinese medicine mixture used in the treatment of neonatal hyperbilirubinemia in China. This article systematically explores the pharmacological mechanisms by which YZH acts in the treatment of neonatal hyperbilirubinemia through network pharmacology at the molecular level. Methods. We adopted the method of network pharmacology, which includes active component prescreening, target gene prediction, gene enrichment analysis, and network analysis. Results. According to the network pharmacological analysis, 8 genes (STAT3, AKT1, MAPK14, JUN, TP53, MAPK3, ESR1, and RELA) may be targets of YZH in the treatment of neonatal hyperbilirubinemia. In addition, Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) enrichment analyses showed that YZH may regulate antioxidation, modulate lipid metabolism, and have anti-infective properties. Conclusion. In this study, the pharmacological action and molecular mechanisms of YZH were predicted as a whole. It was found that YZH is a promising drug for treating oxidative stress due to bilirubin, as it reduces immunosuppression and helps to eliminate virus infection.

A herbal remedy formulation including Stixis suaveolens and Pandanus tonkinensis has been established to treat liver diseases in the North‐West region of Vietnam. This study aimed to provide in vitro as well as in vivo scientific evidences which illustrate the hepatoprotective effect of water extract of the above formulation. As a result, the highest oral dosage of water extract equivalent to 29.6 g/kg did not induce any toxic phenomena. Histopathological study showed that water extract formulation could reverse the damage caused by acetaminophen in mice. The water extract reduced significantly the level of ALT and AST enzyme, MDA, TNF‐α and IFN‐γ concentrations in mice treated with acetaminophen compared with control disease group. Furthermore, one of ten fractions from the formulation (F8) showed the strongest hepatoprotectivity in model of CCl4‐induced toxicity in HepG2 cells. Thus, the water extract formulation could be a potential candidate for the protection of liver from diseases.

This research aimed to prove the existing natural transition of Metal Coordination Anthocyanin complex (MAC) from the freeze-dried of Java plum (Syzygium cumini) fruit and its role as free radical scavenging. The Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LCMS) analysis showed the presence of anthocyanin in the fruit, while transition metals of Fe, Cu, and Ni were also found as detected by X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF). The Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) spectra revealed the interaction of organic functional groups with transition metals. These facts were supported by X-Ray Powder Diffraction (XRD) and polarizing microscope images which displayed both amorphous and crystallite microstructures related to organic and bioinorganic content in the fruit. The analysis of complex compound indicated the transition metal as coordinator atom and a cyanidin acts as a chelator among anthocyanins existing in the fruit. The paramagnetic property of MAC in the fruit as a free radical scavenger was demonstrated by the reduction of 1, 1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical intensity in the Electron Spin Resonance (ESR) spectrum. These findings suggested that S.cumini fruit contains naturally existing MAC.
