Estratigrafia De Sequências Das Formações Campo Mourão (Parte Superior) E Taciba, Grupo Itararé, Leste Da Bacia Do Paraná

Abstract: SEQUENCE STRATIGRAPHY OF THE CAMPO MOURÃO (UPPER PART) AND TACIBA FORMATIONS, ITARARÉ GROUP, EASTERN PARANÁ BASIN The chronostratigraphic framework of the Campo Mourão (upper part) and Taciba formations, Itararé Group was investigated through a subsurface study in the eastern flank of the Paraná Basin. A total of five depositional sequences were recognized, each represented by an upward increase in the argillaceous content (sandstone to diamictite to shale). The upper part of basal sequence 1 is formed by a th… Show more

“…3). For chronostratigraphic correlation, we place the datum in the finegrained interval of sequence 4, the most easily traceable horizon in the stratigraphic section and correlative to the Lontras shale marker of Castro (1999). The sequences have the same basic stratigraphic signature in subsurface and exhibit the typical fining-upward profile in their lower portions, a pattern characteristic of deglaciation facies succession.…”

“…According to Castro (1999), five depositional sequences related to glacial-postglacial processes can be identified in the Campo Mourao and Taciba formations (middle and upper parts of the Itararé Group). Each sequence forms fining-upward cycles composed of subglacial tillites at the bottom overlain by resedimented diamictites or conglomerates and sandstones deposited in small outwash fans (Castro, 1999). The top of each fining-upward sequence is formed by transgressive shales, suggesting a sea-level rise during glacial melting.…”
