Estimation of the enzymes LDH, GOT and GPT in plasma of grey mullet Mugil auratus and their significance in liver intoxication

Abstract: Activ~ties of lactic dehydrogenase (LDH), glutamate oxaloacetate transanunase (GOT) and glutamate pyruvate transaminase (GPT) were measured in blood plasma and some tissues of grey mullet Mugd auratus Risso. After determination of optimal assay conditions, cardiac sampling for LDH estimation was recommended. Tissue distribution of enzymers and their origln in plasma were described, in particular the isozyme forms of LDH. Plasma levels of all 3 enzymes showed a significant increase following treatment with CC1,. Show more

“…These enzymes are found in small concentrations in plasma, derived probably from the regular physiological shedding of cells (Schmidt and Schmidt 1974). Therefore, any detectable increase of their activity in plasma can be a reliable indicator of not only changed metabolic functions but also of structural damage at tissue level, so the interpretation of results from these enzymes should be done carefully (Krajnovic-Ozretic and Ozretic 1987). In the present trial we observed an increasing value of GPT and GOT in response to the increasing values of AFB1 in the diets, suggesting tissue damage.…”

“…There is mounting evidence that serum enzymes [alanine aminotransferase (ALAT, formerly SGPT); aspartate aminotransferase (ASAT, formerly SGOT); lactate dehydrogenase (LDH); creatine kinase (CK)] possess special diagnostic magnitudes to several pollutant categories (Krajnoviæ‐Ozretiæ and Ozretiæ 1987; Nemcsók et al. 1987; Adham et al.…”

“…There is mounting evidence that serum enzymes [alanine aminotransferase (ALAT, formerly SGPT); aspartate aminotransferase (ASAT, formerly SGOT); lactate dehydrogenase (LDH); creatine kinase (CK)] possess special diagnostic magnitudes to several pollutant categories (Krajnoviñ-Ozretiñ and Ozretiñ 1987;Nemcso k et al 1987;Adham et al 1997). Additionally, the relative RNA and DNA content is used as an integrative indicator of contaminant stress and as a sensitive and rapid indicator for assessing the eects of contaminants on ®sh growth (Haines 1973; Barron and Adelman 1984;Rodreguez-Ariza et al 1999).…”
