Estimation of the Crown Widths of Un-erupted Canine and Premolars by Using Vistibulo-oral Crown Dimensions of Per-manent Teeth

Abstract: Aims: To estimate multiple regression equation on (88) subjects (48 females and 40 males),for predicting the widths of crowns of unerupted canine and premolar for both jaws and both genders. The subjects had normal class I molar relationship with full permanent dentition. Materials and methods: Plaster models of (88) subjects (48 females and 40 males ).Mesiodistal diameter (MMD) and vestibulooral diameter (VOD) of the crown of cental incisor, lateral incisor, canine, premolars and first molar( I1,I2,C both P1 an… Show more

“…Many studies have been conducted in Iraq to predict the mesiodistal width of the unerupted canine and premolars depending on the crown diameter of the permanent incisors and first molars. [33][34][35][36][37][38][39][40][41] This study aims to test the applicability of the original Tanaka-Johnston equations on the Iraqi population and to develop a new one if not applicable.…”

“…(22) The difference between male and female tooth widths is been shown in several studies. (26)(27)(28) According to Staley et al, (29) the prediction of the width of the crowns of the teeth is more reliable on the left than on the right side of the jaw and this disagreement with Awni (30) , Legovic et al, (13) and Jarjees (31) who found there is no significant difference in the mesiodistal crown diameter of the teeth between right and left sides of the jaws for both male and female, so in our study the mean of right and left side is taken for both gender.…”
