“…A cursory inspection of the available literature (Zdravkovich, 1977(Zdravkovich, , 1987(Zdravkovich, , 1997(Zdravkovich, , 2003Kang, 2003;Liang et al, 2009;Ryu et al, 2009;Tsutsui, 2010;Shyam et al, 2013) reveals that the bulk of the information relates to high Reynolds numbers like those encountered in air/gas, air/liquid heat exchangers. On the other hand, owing to the generally high viscosity levels of the multiphase (foams, suspensions, and emulsions) and polymeric systems, the representative Reynolds numbers in polymer, food and slurry related applications seldom exceed 20-30.…”

“…Liang et al [12] used spectral difference method to develop a two-dimensional solver and predicted four wake patterns after investigating nine different spacings between 1.1 and 4.0 at a fixed Reynolds number of 100. Ryu et al [13] carried out investigations by applying a finite-volume method using a multi-block grid technique for Re = 100 at various non-dimensional gap spacings between 0.1 and 15. They reported five vortex interaction categories and found that the changes of hydrodynamic coefficients due to variations in separation are well characterized by the five different vortex flow patterns.…”

“…Numerical investigation of the characteristics of twodimensional heat transfer in a steady laminar flow around two rotating circular cylinders in a side-by-side arrangement and validation for the large gap-spacing between cylinder surfaces is found in literature. 4 In this respect, wake interaction between two circular cylinders in tandem and side-by-side arrangements was studied experimentally by some researchers such as Zhang and Melbourne, 5 Liu et al, 6 and Ryu et al 7 At low Reynolds numbers, Liu et al 6 employed also the unstructured spectral element method to investigate the flow pattern of two side-by-side cylinders for different spacings.…”
