“…The storage safety of CO 2 in deep saline aquifers is by far most menaced by the capillary breakthrough due to the excessive CO 2 injection, which is mainly controlled by the interfacial tension (IFT) between CO 2 and brine . Therefore, accurate knowledge about the brine‐CO 2 IFT is of high importance in designing and planning a CO 2 injection process and safety storage operations in such geological media.…”

“…The literature review shows that many researchers tried to propose rapid and accurate prediction models appropriate at conditions somewhat similar to the underground storage for prediction of CO 2 ‐brine IFT. Some developed empirical correlations to predict pure or impure CO 2 ‐water and CO 2 ‐brine IFT are mentioned as follows which have been discussed in further detail in : Massoudi and King , Hebach et al , Bennion and Bachu , Li et al , Chalbaud et al , Georgiadis et al , and Li et al . Among the above efforts, the prediction accuracy of last one model, i.e., that of Li et al , is better compared with previous correlations since it is applicable for predicting the IFT of impure CO 2 and water/brine systems.…”

“…Many others also provided empirical equations based on their experimental results, and most of their data were obtained at high temperatures and pressure ranges and only an NaCl solution was considered. Zhang and Feng summarized the empirical equation available in the literature.…”

“…On the other hand, several simulation models were developed by researchers in recent years to estimate CO 2 –brine interfacial tension. Zhang et al . proposed an artificial neural network to estimate CO 2 –brine interfacial tension based accurately on a database available in the literature.…”
