Estimating vulnerability of water body using Sentinel-2 images and environmental modelling: the study case of Bracciano Lake (Italy)

Abstract: Due to the concomitance of several factors related to progressive climate changes and to increased water management for anthropogenic usage, drastic fall in level of Bracciano Lake, a volcanic lake, 30 km northwest of Rome, was reported. In November 2017 the water level decreased 1.98 m below the hydrometric zero. Vulnerability to eutrophication was investigated by determination of the lake water volume and the related phosphorus concentration. At this purpose, the bathymetry layer of the water body and the ap… Show more

“…Bathymetric surveying of lakes is one of the most time-consuming and mandatory components of landscape and limnological studies. This fact is also confirmed by other scientists' (Giuliani et al 2019;Paul et al 2019;Muhtadi et al 2020;Chormanski et al 2021;Simpson et al 2021;Hamilton et al 2022;Yang et al 2022) studies related to the bathymetric survey of different water bodies in terms of depth, area and natural-geographical location. In August 2020, high-precision echo sounding with the geodetic surveying of the water section was carried out on Lake Bile.…”

“…The assessment of the transformation level in the Buniv River basin makes it necessary to improve the monitoring system within the river basin, as the main tool for assessing and predicting changes in the aquatic ecosystem and managing the processes of its anthropogenic transformation. Water quality monitoring can be effectively supported through the use of satellite technology [12,13].…”

“…A model of geographic management of a nature reserve [8] was developed within the framework of the "Electronic Turkey" project. Some studies were devoted to the validation of remote sensing indices for water monitoring using Sentinel-2 [9,10], which can be applied to the cadastre development of lake systems of protected areas. Although successfully tested the methods of capturing littoral zones (up to 1.6 m under clear water conditions) using a UAV complex with a LIDAR scanner on board [11].…”
