Estimating an EQ-5D-5L Value Set for China

Abstract: The 8-parameter multiplicative model performed the best in the study and therefore was used to generate the EQ-5D-5L value set for China. We recommend using rescaled values whereby 1 represents the value of instrument-defined full health in economic evaluation of health technologies in China whenever the EQ-5D-5L data are available.

“…On the other hand, the estimated function forms of the Japanese and Korean tariffs were relatively similar, which additionally included a constant. The Korean tariff further included an N4 dummy variable which equals 1 if any of the five health dimensions contains level 4 or above, 0 otherwise 15,1820…”

“…In the Chinese valuation study,20 86 health states were valued by composite TTO (cTTO). To generate the tariff, the eight-parameter multiplicative model, including coefficients of the five dimensions (β MO , β SC , β UA , β PD , β AD ) and parameters for levels 2, 3, and 4 (L2, L3, and L4), was chosen as the best model with random intercept variants.…”

“…Here, we applied the new EQ-5D-5L value sets from eight countries [16][17][18][19][20][21][22][23]: England, the Netherlands, Spain, Canada, Uruguay, China, Japan, and Korea. For ease of exposition, the English value set would be emphasised, though results for other countries' value sets were discussed.…”

“…A key limitation of this previous study is that it was based on an interim value set, which was a 'cross walk' between the earlier three-level 2 EQ-5D (EQ-5D-3L) and the EQ-5D-5L descriptive system [15]. Most recently, several country-specific EQ-5D-5L value sets have been published, including four Western countries (England, the Netherlands, Spain, Canada), three Asian countries (China, Japan, Korea) and one South American (Uruguay) [16][17][18][19][20][21][22][23]. Hence, the existing mapping algorithm for D-39 is becoming obsolete following the publication of these new EQ-5D-5L value sets.…”
