■ RESUMONa atualidade, o cateterismo vesical é amplamente empregado nos procedimentos hospitalares, sendo relevante no desenvolvimento de processos patológicos do trato urinário, o que aumenta a necessidade de atualização da profissional enfermeira para efetivação da técnica. Para tanto, objetiva-se neste trabalho refletir sobre a prática do cateterismo vesical de demora em um centro obstétrico. Baseouse em uma estratégia qualitativa de pesquisa, numa perspectiva holística. O estudo foi conduzido no centro obstétrico de um hospital especializado em saúde da mulher do interior da Bahia. Para a coleta de dados, utilizou-se a técnica de entrevista semiestruturada. Após análise dos dados, depreenderam-se quatro categorias. Foi possível observar que os profissionais de saúde ainda possuem dificuldades na realização da técnica asséptica, e fatores como a carência de determinados insumos necessários, além da falta de uma avaliação precisa para a indicação do procedimento, ainda são elementos predisponentes às infecções do trato urinário.Palavras-chave: Cateteres de demora; enfermagem; infecções relacionadas a cateter.
■ ABSTRACTCurrently, the indwelling catheter is widely used in hospital procedures and is relevant in the development of pathological processes of the urinary tract, which increases the need for training of the nurse professional to execute the technique. Therefore, the objective of this work is to reflect on the practice of delayed indwelling catheterization in an obstetric center. It was based on a qualitative strategy of research, in a holistic perspective. The study was conducted at the Obstetric Center of a women's health specialized hospital in the countryside of Bahia. For data collection, the semi-structured interview technique was used. After analyzing the data four categories were deduced. It was observed that health professionals still have difficulties in carrying out the aseptic technique, and factors such as the lack of certain necessary inputs, as well as the lack of a precise examination for the procedure indication, are also predisposing factors for urinary tract infections.
