Aims: This study was carried out in order to determine the current situation and problems in the cattle breeding practices related to shelter characteristics in İspir district of Erzurum province and to provide solutions.Methods and Results: In this research, a face-to-face survey was conducted with 394 business owners selected by a random sampling method among cattle farms in İspir district of Erzurum province. Chi-square and frequency analyzes were performed in the statistical evaluation of the obtained data. It was determined that 97.2% of the surveyed enterprises did not have separate maternity wards in their barns. While the majority of the enterprises housed heifers, young cattle and dry cows together (90.4%), only 9.6% of them housed them separately. It was also determined that the percentages of enterprises providing bedding for cattle in the district were considerably low (12.4%). Grain straw (6.6%) and sawdust (3.3%) were the most popular bedding materials. The enterprises watered their animals through village fountains (90.1%), troughs (70.6%) or carrying the water by the bucket (33.5%). Of all the surveyed enterprises, 54.8% performed general cleaning once a year, while 33.0% twice and 12.2% three times. In 62.9% of the enterprises, manure was used as fertilizer in the fields, and a significant part of the enterprises preferred to utilize manure as fuel (34%). Most of the participants stated that they believed that the cattle would be uncomfortable and that their productivity would decrease at 10-15 °C, which is the optimal temperature for the cattle.Conclusions: The findings of the study demonstrated that there were some improper and deficient practices in the district in terms of breeding practices related to barn characteristics and a large educational campaign on this subject was required for cattle breeders.Significance and Impact of the Study: There are some structural and nonstructural elements in the barn that help the cattle to perform their natural behaviours indirectly increase productivity and ease the work in the enterprises. With this study, the status of cattle enterprises in İspir district in terms of breeding practices related to barn characteristics was determined and some suggestions were made regarding current problems.

Öz: Broiler yetiştiriciliğinde önemli sorunların başında ayak problemleri gelmektedir. Bu çalışmada aynı şartlarda bakım ve beslenmesi yapılan 10 adet sağlıklı (SG) ve 10 adet ayak hastalıklı (AHG) olmak üzere toplam 20 adet broiler (Ross 308) kullanıldı. Uygun ortamda kesilen hayvanlardan alınan böbrek, kalp, karaciğer, but eti ve göğüs eti dokularındaki antioksidan metabolizmayı belirlemek için süperoksit dismutaz (SOD) ve katalaz (CAT) aktiviteleri ile glutatyon (GSH) ve lipid peroksidasyon (LPO) miktarları ölçüldü. Ayak hastalıklı grubun böbrek dokusunda CAT aktivitesinin, GSH ve LPO miktarlarının arttığı tespit edildi (P<0.05). Yine AHG'nin but dokusunda CAT aktivitesi ve LPO miktarının arttığı (P<0.01), SOD aktivitesinin ise azaldığı belirlendi (P<0.05). Göğüs dokusunda ise AHG'nin SOD aktivitesi, GSH ve LPO miktarlarının arttığı (P<0.01), CAT aktivitesinin ise azaldığı görüldü (P<0.01). Ayak Hastalıklı Grubun kalp dokusunda CAT aktivitesi ile GSH miktarının arttığı (P<0.01), SOD aktivitesinin azaldığı belirlendi (P<0.01). Ayrıca AHG'nin karaciğer dokusunda SOD aktivitesi (P<0.05) ile GSH miktarının azaldığı (P<0.05) ve LPO miktarlarının arttığı (P<0.01), CAT aktivitesinin ise değişmediği görüldü (P>0.05). Sonuç olarak; ayak hastalıklı hayvanların tibial-tarsal kemik dokusunun tam olarak şekillenmediği, böbrek, kalp, karaciğer, but ve göğüs eti dokularında antioksidan aktivitelerin önemli oranda değiştiği, ancak bu değişiminin enzimine ve dokusuna göre farklı olduğu tespit edildi.

ÖZET Bu araştırma, süt sığırcılığı işletmelerinin süt verim özelliklerine ait uygulamalarını belirlemek amacıyla, Muş İli ve 5 ilçesinde 346 işletme sahibiyle yüz yüze anket yapılarak yürütülmüştür. İşletmelerde genelde sağım elle ve günde iki kez yapılırken, sağım süresi ortalama 7.4 ay olarak bulunmuştur. Günlük ortalama süt verimi 10.3 kg iken, il genelinde süt verimi işletmelerin %50.7'sinde 6-10 kg aralığında yoğunlaşmaktadır. İşletmecilerin %59.3'ü ineklerden elde edilen sütün yeterli olmadığını ve %86.4'ü süt veriminin mevsime göre değiştiğini belirtmiştir. İşletmelerin %82.6'sı inekleri kuruya çıkarmakta ve %55.8'i 60 gün kuruda tutmaktadır. İşletmelerin %54'ünün sağım öncesi meme temizliği yaptığı ve %32.2'sinin sağım sonrası daldırma işlemi yaptığı belirlenmiştir. Üretilen süt işletmelerin %70.5'inde "peynir-yoğurt-tereyağı" kombinasyonu şeklinde ürüne dönüştürülmektedir. Hayvan sayısı az olan işletmelerde üretilen sütün tamamı ev ihtiyacı için tüketilirken, diğer işletmelerde ise genellikle sütün %10-15'i tüketilmektedir İşletmelerde süt verimini artırmak için, barınak dâhil alt yapısının iyileştirilmesi, yetiştirilen ırklar içinde kültür ırklarının oranının artırılması, mera imkânı ve mera ot kalitesinin artırılması gerekmektedir. Bunlarla birlikte hayvancılığın sadece meraya dayalı yapılmaması ile yetiştiricilerin teknik bilgi düzeylerinin artırılması gibi bir takım tedbirlerin alınması önerilmektedir. ABSTRACTObjective of this study was to determine the application of dairy cattle breeding practices 346 farm located in Muş province and its 5 districts. While milking was performed by hand twice a day in farms, milking period average was found to be about 7.4 months. While the average daily milk yield was 10.3 kg, milk yield in the province was concentrated in the range of 6-10 kg in 50.7%. Overall, 59.3% of the operators stated that the milk obtained from the cows was not sufficient and 86.4% of them stated that the milk yield varied seasonally. Generally, 82.6% of the farms dried the cows and 55.8% kept 60 days in dry period. Additionally, 54% of the farms had teat cleaning before milking and after the milking, the rate of those who had immersion was found to be 32.2%. Additionally, 70.5% of the farms converted the produced milk into the form of cheese-yoghurtbutter products. The total milk produced in farms with a small number of animals was consumed for household needs, in others, 10-15% was generally consumed for the same purpose. In order to increase milk yield in the farms, measures such as improving the infrastructure of the enterprise including shelter, increasing the rate of culture races in the breeds, increasing the quality of pasture and increasing the technical knowledge of breeders were recommended.
