Erkrankungsbedingte Kosten für Partner psychisch Kranker: Ergebnisse einer Mehrfacherhebung

Abstract: Spouses reported substantial direct cash expenditures on behalf of the patients' illness. Since these expenditures varied to a large extent over the three points of measurement, repeated measurement designs seem to be a prerequisite for a reliable assessment of illness-associated costs. Since living together with a mentally ill partner is associated with an increased risk of developing a burden-related psychiatric illness for spouses themselves which may lead to double costs and double decreases in income, the… Show more

“…The present study focusses on the important methodological aspect that various statistical techniques have been applied to investigate the research questions mentioned above, differing strongly in their assumptions and which information contained in the data they use: In [1, 49, 11], linear regression models were applied, studies [3, 6, 8] used logistic regression (which, in short, is a generalization of linear regression modelling if the dependent variable is dichotomous; studies [2] and [10] did not perform statistical analyses). In contrast, Alexandrowicz et al.…”

“…Due to the patients’ mood disturbance and illness-related behaviour, relatives of patients with depressive disorders experience heavy psychosocial burden [5]. The relatives’ burden is also rooted for example, in financial constraints due to the illness [6], increased household responsibilities, as well as limitations in social activities, social relationships or strains in the partnership [7,8]. Uncertainties about how to deal adequately with the patients and their illness-related behaviour [9] as well as negative emotions like guilt, anger or worries about the patients’ future are common [8].…”
