Equipotential shielding voltage sensor for contact measurement of transient voltage in EHV/UHV power grids

Abstract: In this study, an equipotential shielding voltage sensor is proposed to achieve contact measurement of transient voltage in extra‐high voltage (EHV)/ultra‐high voltage (UHV) power grids. Two design versions of the voltage sensor for engineering application are described. One version of the sensor is designed as a miniaturized sensor for non‐disturbing measurement of potential distribution along power electronic equipment under transient voltage. The other version is designed for online measurement and monitori… Show more

“…The amplitude and frequency composition of an electric field becomes more complex accompanied by the introduction of a large number of power electronic devices [3]. Traditional sensors are prone to resonance and need a carrier light source [4,5], while the sensors based on the electroluminescence effect have the advantages of excellent electrical insulation performance and distributed measurement [6][7][8]. Electroluminescence refers to a solid luminescence phenomenon, in which composites convert the electric energy into optical energy [9,10].…”

“…Therefore, the spatial resolution of the system indicates that the measured results can only present the net charge distribution at each position inside the sample. For the measurement methods based on elastic wave signals, the spatial resolution can be calculated by (1). where v is propagation speed of signal inside the sample.…”

“…The insulation system that supports the stable operation of power electronic equipment has gradually become a large limitation. One of the main reasons for this situation is that electronic equipment usually operates in highfrequency electrical stress environment [1], [2]. The traditional evaluation techniques for insulation performance under DC and low-frequency AC conditions are no longer suitable for high-frequency conditions [3], [4].…”
