EQ-5D: a plea for accurate nomenclature

Abstract: Between 1987 and 1990, the EuroQol Group developed a 5-dimension health-related quality of life instrument, originally known as 'the EuroQol instrument', which since 1995 has been called the 'EQ-5D'. For several years, 'the EuroQol instrument' and 'EQ-5D' were both deployed in published materials. In order to standardise nomenclature, the EuroQol Group agreed in 2001 on a terminology glossary containing 12 items; this was recently revised and augmented to include 22 items and can be found on the Group's websit… Show more

“…Twelve studies were multicentric. Various PROMs were used for QOL (SF-36, original and version 2 [ 10 ], EuroQol 5 dimensions [EQ-5D] [ 58 ]], mood disorders (HADS-anxiety [HADS-A], HADS-depression [HADS-D] [ 13 ]), fatigue (Multidimensional fatigue inventory [MFI-20] [ 59 ]), disability (HAQ, International Physical Activity Questionnaire—Short Form [IPAQ-SF] [ 60 ], Walking Impairment Questionnaire (WIQ) [ 61 ], Work Productivity and Activity Impairment Questionnaire (WPAI) [ 62 ]], perceptions about illness (Illness Perception Questionnaire [IPQ-R] [ 63 ], Brief Illness Perception Questionnaire [BIPQ] [ 64 ], Nottingham Health Profile [NHP] [ 65 ]) and fibromyalgia [ 66 ]. Characteristics of included studies are summarized in Table 1 .…”

“…EuroQol 5-Dimensions The EQ-5D score assesses QOL across five dimensions, rated across three or five levels, with a visual analog score estimate of overall health ranging from 0 to 100 (higher scores indicating better health) [58]. Two studies reported EQ-5D in patients with TAK.…”

“…Aerobic physical activity was divided into whether a week of moderate-intensity physical activity was performed for 2 h 30 min or more, high-intensity physical activity for 1 h 15 min or more, or a mixture of moderate-intensity and high-intensity physical activity (1 min of high intensity = 2 min of moderate intensity). The EQ-5D is a widely used survey instrument for describing health-related quality of life status [13]. To measure the subjects' health-related quality of life, EQ-5D was used for exercise ability, self-management, daily activities, pain, and depression.…”
