I advance a naturalistic conception of both substantive and meta-level epistemological inquiry which fully complies with these four tenets and thereby shows that the strong programme neither entails nor even augurs the demise of epistemology.Key words anthropology of epistemology, epistemology, naturalism, stron… Show more

“…Further, attempts to argue for moving from an epistemology guided by the goal of reliable knowledge to one guided by socially robust knowledge have also been met with a mixed reception (Maffie, 1999;Fuller, 1999) One of the reasons for this dissensus is that although the research community concedes that utility to society should be part of the science-society contract, what constitutes utility, and particularly, how it should be demonstrated, has always been a contested issue. In fact, a quick glance over the history of science policy in the last century would reveal that utility has been a highly unstable and problematic concept when applied to the context of science.…”

“…It may be estimated from the same positions. On the one hand, every person needs to get new knowledge for self-improvement as an individual (Maffie, 1999). Learning skills contributes to the formation of a person as an expert.…”
