“…The results also mimicked the findings of a surveillance study conducted in 2005 in Kuwait hospitals [23] and two studies conducted in the USA and Canada [20,24] where skin and soft tissues were the major sources of MRSA isolates. In contrast to the findings of this study, lower respiratory tract samples were the major sources accounting for 40.6% of MRSA isolates obtained during an Italian national survey conducted in 2012 [25] . These findings highlight the geographical differences in the epidemiology of MRSA colonization and/or infection.…”

“…The observation that all MRSA isolates were susceptible to linezolid is similar to reports from other countries that MRSA isolates were susceptible to linezolid [20,22,25] . In addition, the MIC distribution of the glycopeptide antibiotics showed that the majority ( ∼ 97%) of the isolates were susceptible to vancomycin and teicoplanin (MIC: ≤ 2 μg/ml), confirming that vancomycin and teicoplanin remain viable options for treating MRSA infections in Kuwait.…”

“…Rates of MRSA fluctuated between 34% and 41% between 2012 and 2014 and these results are comparable with those previously published by Stefani et al [7]. Similarly, an Italian study by Campanile et al in 2012 identified 35.8% of S. aureus isolates as MRSA [4]. The EARS-Net report shows that Italy was one of seven European countries to have percentages of MRSA >25%.…”

“…Following this, rates of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) have stabilized in some areas and have decreased in others [1]. Italy is no exception to this, with reports of decreasing rates of MRSA over recent years [4]. …”

“…It is prone to raising multiple drug resistance. As found in 3-month epidemiological study to determine the prevalence and antibiotic resistance of S. aureus nosocomial infections in 52 centers throughout Italy in 2012, the prevalence of S. aureus among all nosocomial pathogens isolated in that period was 11.6% ( n = 2541), whilst the prevalence of methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) among the S. aureus was 35.8% ( n = 910) [38]. However, the collection S. aureus strain ATCC 25923 exhibited a high susceptibility to Cefazolin in vitro and was chosen as a model object for in vivo studies of efficiency of K. pinnata extracts which was compared with this antibiotic.…”
