“…However, the direct transmitted parasites such as G. lamblia, E. coli, or B. hominis are still high in the region. Studies conducted in school students in Turkey (Okyay et al 2004) and Afghanistan (Korzeniewski et al 2015), Iran's neighbors, showed that the prevalence of intestinal parasites was 31.8% and 39.1%, respectively, which were higher than in our study. Generally, it seems that the prevalence of intestinal parasites, especially intestinal helminths and in particular some intestinal nematodes, has decreased in the last decade in Iran (Rokni 2008).…”

“…In Afghanistan, Tajikistan and Pakistan, the prevalence rates of parasitoses as well as the types of most common intestinal parasites are health care system in the Ghazni province. One of the primary objectives of this project was to purchase thousands of doses of antiparasitic drugs in order to treat infected patients hospitalized in Ghazni Provincial Hospital, as well as the children frequenting local schools in the Ghazni province [26]. However, owing to the high prevalence of parasitic infections and the great variety of pathogenic parasites found in Afghans, a deworming campaign with single-dose therapy (albendazole or mebendazole) may turn out to be ineffective.…”

“…The support is also given to the poorest residents, including people of the Kuchi tribe living in the province. [12] Polish soldiers from the CIMIC group, along with the medical personnel and the leaders of the combat training camp, regularly provide medical help to the local community. Most frequently, it takes place during so-called "white Sundays" (Medical Civil Action Program -MEDCAP), during which they try to reach the poorest residents of Afghanistan, e.g., those living in Gelan and Moqur district.…”
