Epidemiology of Bovine Mastitis and Its Diagnosis, Prevention, and Control

Abstract: Mastitis is an inflammation of mammary glands that is prevalent in dairy bovines. It causes a significant proportion of economic losses to the dairy farmers in India. Cattle and buffalo farming contribute significantly to the economy of the state. Various infectious agents such as bacteria, fungi, and algae may cause mastitis. Hence, it is essential to understand the etiological agents and predisposing factors that lead to mastitis in susceptible bovine populations in Madhya Pradesh state so that appropriate p… Show more

“…One distinguishing feature of these regions is that they have extremely high population densities, and Bangladesh and some regions in India each have a population density of over 1,000 per sq km ( 19 ). In addition, in these regions, milk is usually produced in rural settings where the majority of the population resides ( 37 ). We also noted a surge in cases from China in the past decade, which may be partly related to the selection of three Chinese databases for this study and the increasing attention to bovine mastitis in this country.…”

“…Mastitis is the most economically significant disease of the mammary gland in ewes. These economic losses are associated with direct or indirect factors such as the cost of the treatment of the sick animals, increased mortality rates, reduced milk production, and led excessive culling of the herd (17,18). Management of the pack have been associated with multiple causes that consider as a predisposing factor for ewe's mastitis like hygiene, the conformation of the udders, healthy animal statues, suckling and prolificacy of the lamb, genetic factor (19) practices of the milk, and food, inadequate nutrition and decreased of vitamins-the causative organism like Strep.…”

“…Bovine intramammary infection (IMI) or bovine mastitis is the inflammatory response of the mammary gland tissues of cows primarily to microbial infections . According to the estimates, the yearly financial loss from bovine mastitis incurred in some of the prominent milk-producing countries such as the United States, Canada, India, and Australia amount to $2 billion, $310 million, $971 million, and $130 million, respectively. Reduced milk production, milk loss, extra labor charges, treatment, and veterinary service costs all cumulatively account for financial losses, making mastitis the most threatening bacterial disease in the dairy cattle industry globally …”
