Epicardial, pericardial fat and glucagon-like peptide-1 and 2 receptors expression in stable patients with multivessel coronary artery disease: an association with renin-angiotensin-aldosterone

Abstract: GLP -1 and -2 receptors and the renin -angiotensin -aldosterone system 233 an increased volume of EF and a dysfunctional profile of gene expression in this fat depot. 4 More over, major differences were found in the gene expression of inflammatory markers in both EF and pericardial fat (PF) depots. 4 The glucagon like peptide 1 (GLP 1) is an incretin hormone with a spectrum of pharmacological and meta bolic effects: an increase in glucose dependent INTROduCTION Epicardial fat (EF) is a visceral adipose tissue… Show more

“…Angiotensinogen undergoes two cleavages to form angiotensin II (Ang II), which has well-known adverse effects on the myocardium. A recent study showed that the mRNA expression of GLP-1R was considerably associated with the components of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) detected in epicardial and pericardial fat in patients with severe coronary artery disease ( Haberka et al, 2021 ). However, the interactive regulation between GLP-1R and the RAAS is still unclear.…”

“…In addition, the study showing that angiotensin converting enzyme hyperactivity in human EAT is associated with cardiac dysfunction supports these data [ 50 ]. Another mechanism revealed in recent years is that people with a history of CVD have a higher expression of glucagon-like peptide (GLP) in EAT [ 51 ]. Studies revealing the relationship between RAS activity and EAT CVD in CKD patients are insufficient in the literature.…”
