“…Abnormal vitamin B12 absorptive capacity appears to be rare. The present patient showed significant impairment of vitamin B12 absorption reflecting the terminal ileal involvement documented in eosinophilic gastroenteritis (Swarts and Young, 1955;Koneman, Sawyer and Lubchenko, 1959;Higgins, Lamm and Yutzy, 1966;Salmon and Paulley, 1967;Kaplan et al, 1970).…”

“…The association of peripheral eosinophilia and abdominal symptoms has more recently led to the diagnosis and treatment without operation in this type of case by Higgins et a& (1966) ~ Salmon and Paulley (1967) and Floch (1970). The diagnosis has also been established by smallbowel biopsy (Pitchumoni et alii, 1970).…”

“…Some have been asthmatic (Judd et alii. 1955), and there are patients with a strong familial and constitutional tendency towards allergy such as those described by Spencer et alii (rqso), Frank (1953) and Salmon and Paulley (1967). The presence of eosinophils is not proof of an allergic xtiology, as they feature prominently in a variety of inflammatory conditions.…”
