“…As the true nature, etiology, and pathogenesis of histiocytosis X have not been elucidated, variable treatment mo-daLties have been proposed (Sedano et al 1969, Soskolne et al, 1977, Lin et al 1979, Patrikiou et al 1984, Zuendel et al, 1984, Excellent response has been reported in 28 cases of eosinophilic granuioma of bone approached by a variety of treatment modalities, including surgery and radiation (McGavran & Spady I960). Zuendel et al (1984) reported that bony lesions of histiocytosis X were sensitive to various treatments and that conservative, individually planned therapy was most appropriate, Sbarbaro & Francis (1961) as well as Patrikiou et al (1984) stated that curettage should be the preferred treatment for a solitary lesion of eosinophilic granuloma and that radiotherapy or chemotherapy should be reserved for surgically inaccessible regions, while Ochsner (1966) noted a favorable response after radiotherapy. In general, surgical curettage is recommended for the treatment of jaw lesions while radiotherapy and chemotherapy should be reserved for lesions which are either too numerous or inaccessible to surgery (Johnson & Mohnac 1967.…”
