Environmental sustainability through designing reverse logistical loops: case research of poultry supply chains using system dynamics

Abstract: Purpose Poultry production supply chains produce substantial wastes that are transformable into favorable environmental outcomes and profitable products. While overwhelming evidence supports this conclusion, scant literature is available on how such transformations are doable. Using systems dynamics, this study addresses this research gap in a national (Bangladesh) context. This study aims to contribute an integrated model for poultry supply chains that incorporate reverse flows of wastes using system dynamics… Show more

“…In addition, system dynamics can be applied to any complex system, but it is beneficial for exploring the behavior of complex systems such as farming operations [17]. Similar methods are applied in the complex poultry supply chain to find sustainable outcomes [18,19]. Likewise, dairy farming involves many factors that interact differently and must be balanced to achieve the desired results.…”

“…Second-order system-dynamics engineering case study application in a farming enterprise in a developing country Woodside and Biemans (2005) illustrate the usefulness of applying system dynamics research methods to define, comprehend and play inside innovation-diffusion-adoption (IDA) processes in real-time. Consequently, Shamsuddoha et al (2021) report on the details of the innovative application of system dynamics in the poultry industry to assist the present study in mapping the gradual development through traditional, enhanced and radical innovation approaches. These two approaches describe the step-by-step improvement process to reach the goal of deploying superior revolutionary technologies to increase efficiency and profitability.…”
