Abstract:In perceptual audio coders, the audio signal masks the quantization noise. The masking effectiveness depends on the degree of tonality/noisiness of the signal. Hence, in psychoacoustic models (PM) of perceptual coders, the level of the estimated masking thresholds can be adjusted by tonality estimation methods. This paper introduces three envelope analysis methods for tonality estimation: optimized amplitude modulation ratio (AM-R), auditory image correlation, and temporal envelope rate. The methods were imple… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
