Entrepreneurship and innovation efficiency: the moderating role of absorptive capacity

Abstract: Purpose This study aims to investigate the relationship between entrepreneurship and innovation efficiency (IE), as well as the moderating role of absorptive capacity. Design/methodology/approach This study uses a sample of industrial enterprises from Chinese provinces from 2005 to 2016, and it tests the research questions using the method of stochastic frontier analysis. Findings The results of this study indicate that entrepreneurship promotes IE, and that absorptive capacity plays a positive moderating … Show more

“…That is, under the impact of DMI, absorptive capacity exerts a dynamic impact on PIP and absorptive capacity exerts a stronger positive impact on PIP based on higher DMI level. This result corroborates Qian (2010) and Mubarak and Petraite (2020) and further deepens the static description between absorptive capacity and PIP.…”

“…Moreover, many empirical studies of industrial firm data demonstrated that absorptive capacity could help promote innovation performance. Qian et al (2010) demonstrated that absorptive capacity is a crucial factor that directly affects innovation performance (Qian et al , 2010). Through empirical analysis, Zhen and Yang (2012) showed that absorptive capacity had a significant positive impact on innovation performance.…”

“…We adapted six items to measure competitive advantage from several studies (Cao et al, 2019; Ferreira et al, 2020; Papadas et al, 2019). We adapted six items from previous studies (Qian et al, 2010) to measure innovation intelligibility.…”
