Abstract: The current development of energy management services is stimulated by a series of factors that are both external and industry-specific. One important external factor is the pressure coming from legal provisions in favour of sustainable development. “…While many companies (their executives) were (passively) reacting to the corona-virus threat, others behaved differently, trying to find solutions. Turning threats into opportunities demonstrates not only leadership skills (assuming strategic changes) but also an entrepreneurial behaviour as Scarlat argued [31,32]. Kennedy concludes that [33] (p. 227): "Covid-19 has affected all our lives to such an extent that it has become a cliché to say that the pandemic is unprecedented and extraordinary.…”

In other words, far to be identical, the companies in the same industry perform differently and -as a result -report different results.…”

“…A sampling of granted patents and patent applications (herein called patent) in the period of 1999-2021 was conducted using Derwent innovation index (DII) and Lens.org. We considered a period of 22 years for our bibliographic study since it provides a sufficiently long time period to indicate the collaborative and entrepreneurial behaviour of firms [56][57][58]. Apart from patents owned by SF firms or UoC, joint patents were also sampled.…”

“…The importance of entrepreneurial activity as measured by the formation of new small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can be a key solution to provide employment and boost the economy in both developed (Hu [4], Naudé [5]) and developing economies [6,7]. The existing literature on new venture formation is vast [8] and fragmented with some inconsistencies in the findings implying that encouraging economic growth through the encouragement of entrepreneurial activity requires the application of existing knowledge with a considerable level of adaptation based on external factors such as socio-cultural and economic factors [9], as well as factors that are specific to the individual [10]. Establishing more SMEs by developing entrepreneurship could provide a solution for the social problem looming in the form of large numbers of Chinese workers who face unemployment due to the rapid transformation of business value processes from manufacturing to information based commerce [11,12].…”
