Entity Relationship Diagram Approach to Defining Cyber-attacks

Abstract: Cyber-attack studies are at the core of cybersecurity studies. Cyber-attacks threaten our ability to use the Internet safely, productively, and creatively worldwide and are the source of many security concerns. However, the "cyberattack" concept is underdeveloped in the academic literature and what is meant by cyber-attack is not clear. To advance theory, design and operate databases to support scholarly research, perform empirical observations, and compare different types of cyber-attacks, it is necessary to f… Show more

“…In this application, the entity–relationship (ER) data model, which is a high-level modelling language, was employed to map the relationships and constraints existing between identified entities in the study. In other words, the ER diagram graphically maps important semantic information about objects of interest in a database, the representation of relationship existing between the objects in reality and possible access to the database, given the constraints between the objects (Al-Masree 2015 ; Bagui & Earp 2011 ; Kadivar 2015 ; Thalheim 2013 ). The ER diagram was used to describe and define the related data sets as shown in Figure 4 .…”

“…This study employed the application of entity-relationship (ER) data model for mapping out the relationships and constraints linking the identified entities in the study. ER diagram plays a vital role in semantic information mapping of objects of interest in the database and represent an existing relationship between an object in reality and possibility of getting access to the database (Al-Masree, H.K., 2015;Bagui, S. and Earp, R., 2011;Kadivar, M., 2015;Thalheim, B., 2013). Both entities and the relationships in the study area has been identified and appropriate data model has been chosen to represent them.…”
