Ensemble of different approaches for a reliable person re-identification system

Abstract: An ensemble of approaches for reliable person re-identification is proposed in this paper. The proposed ensemble is built combining widely used person re-identification systems using different color spaces and some variants of state-of-the-art approaches that are proposed in this paper. Different descriptors are tested, and both texture and color features are extracted from the images; then the different descriptors are compared using different distance measures (e.g., the Euclidean distance, angle, and the Je… Show more

“…For the RPE dataset only (Section 2.2) we used an additional set of descriptors, not based on texture, but on colors (COLORS). COLORS consists in the concatenation of statistics computed on the three channels of a color image: mean, homogeneity, standard deviation, third, fourth and fifth moments and the marginal histograms (8 bins for each channel) [ 48 , 49 ].…”

“…Video analytics is an active area of research from the recent past. Researchers have exploited the use of color and texture to perform object classification . proposed an ensemble of different approaches, and combined them on color spaces.…”

“…Depth is estimated by means of an active triangulation process 14 between an infrared pattern projector and an infrared camera, i.e., the position of each 3D point is the intersection of the optical rays corresponding to a dot of the projector and the one of the considered pixel in the infrared camera. The Kinect is widely used in computer vision and robotics for Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM), 15 people detection and tracking, 3,13 short-term and long-term people re-identification, [16][17][18] ambient assisted living [19][20][21] and many other applications. Besides the wide usage of this sensor, it has the drawback of not being able to estimate depth information outdoors because the infrared component of the sunlight interfers with the pattern projected by Kinect.…”
