Enhancing K-10 Students’ Conceptions through Computer Simulations-Aided PDEODE*E (CS-PDEODE*E) on Newton’s Laws

Abstract: The aim of this study was to enhance K-10 students’ conceptions through Computer Simulations-Aided PDEODE*E (CS-PDEODE*E) on Newton’s Laws. The PDEODE*E is a worksheet consisting of seven stages, which are Predict (P), Discuss (D), Explain (E), Observe (O), Discuss (D), Explore (E*) and Explain (E). The computer simulations could support learning via PDEODE*E worksheet by presenting physics’ phenomena. The Newton’s Laws focused on forces and Newton’s First Law. The research method used the 4D (Define, Design, … Show more

“…The simulation for the Doppler effect is presented in terms of the frequency as it passes through the sound source. The use of simulation has indeed been proven in several cases in dealing with misconceptions (Fratiwi et al, 2018;Kaniawati et al, 2021;Wibowo et al, 2017). Moreover, simulations of abstract concepts in physics are very helpful in understanding them.…”

“…We state that the PDEODE*E based teaching model was more significant to promote conceptual change (e.g. Fratiwi, Samsudin, & Costu, 2018). Correspondingly, we utilized exploration sheet individually to explore magnetic concepts to change students' misconceptions towards scientific conceptions properly (Samsudin et al, 2015.…”

“…The low understanding of students concepts can be caused by several factors including students' lack of interest in learning the material and the media used do not make students interested in learning (Yulisa et al, 2020). When students' conceptual understanding is good, students have the opportunity to improve their thinking skills and help them to understand the next material (Fratiwi, et al, 2018).…”
