The Malaysian education system must adapt to the 21st-century paradigm change to produce quality graduates who are holistic, balanced, entrepreneurially ready, bright, skilled, and knowledgeable. Student-centered learning (SCL), a teaching-and-learning (TnL) method, is being adopted in the system to develop students' inclinations and higher thinking capacity, revealing individuals' talents in a certain sector meanwhile, 2U2i and work-based learning (WBL) study modes were established to lessen students' reliance on traditional learning by emphasizing particular industrial in-field learning and continuous learning. The purpose of this study is to verify the reliability and validity of the instrument that will be used to determine the efficacy of SCL in 2U2i and WBL programs among participating local higher education providers (HEP) aside from confirming the existence of SCL elements within the programs. The initial data collection procedure involved questionnaires with students as well as industry players with whom the students are currently affiliated. The results suggest that the instrument used is viable and easily understandable by respondents. However, it is insufficient to formulate a truly effective instrument due to the small sample size and differences in the implementation of 2U2i and WBL programs, suggesting a complete data collection involving all related parties in future studies.

Local skills are essential for a nation's pulse, and Malaysia's government recognizes that education is a critical platform for developing human capital with high competitiveness and employability skills. Similar to other industries, the hospitality industry faces sudden and unexpected changes that have led to the existence and creation of new technologies and skills due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Despite this, there remains insufficient research systematically reviewing existing literature on employability skills necessary for success in this field. Hence the present article conducted a systematic literature review to determine which set of achievements is required for the future resilience of hospitality graduates in the post-covid-19 era. The present study integrated multiple research designs and the review was based on the publication standard, namely PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses). This study selected articles using three leading databases, namely Web of Science, Scopus, and ScienceDirect. Three major themes emerged from the analysis, which covered three broad thematic areas: knowledge, skill, and attitude. The results of this study make it possible to bridge the gap in information available about traditional knowledge and additional employability skills that are required in the current environment to provide future researchers with value-added knowledge.

The Implementation Structure of Work-Based Learning (WBL) in Malaysia: The Perspective of Industry

The industry has been looking for a teaching structure for tertiary education to address the knowledge gap in potential talents. Work-Based Learning (WBL) is a teaching and learning approach in which the industry is directly involved in the knowledge delivery process. Students are put in the industry and receive direct instruction from industry specialists. However, the specific forms and implementation of WBLs in Malaysia's higher education sector remain unclear. As WBL is a new learning culture in Malaysia, challenges such as the industry's low involvement rate, students' adaptation to the learning style, and the status of the higher education institutions are yet to be discovered. This qualitative study employed semi-structured interviews with five coaches from ViTrox Technologies and eight students from University Tunku Abdul Rahman, University Technology Malaysia, and Forward School. A total of twelve interviews were conducted, focusing on the common practices of WBL, student experiences, and opinions towards WBL. Thematic analysis was used to systematically identify and interpret recurring themes within the qualitative data. The study found six key areas for enhancing WBL implementation: communication between industry coaches, lecturers, and students; roles of higher education institutions, industry, and students; WBL placement duration; coaching time; self-learning support; and WBL assessment standards. This study recommends a more practical application of WBL in the Malaysian context to promote WBL in Malaysia and strengthen collaboration between industry and academics in WBL.
