“…In this type of igneous reservoir, the biggest highlight was in the Bach Ho field in Vietnam, discovered in 1975 in the offshore Cuu Long Basin. The field produced oil from Cretaceous and Triassic granodioritic and granitic rocks overlaid by Oligocene lake shales, and production was estimated in 2,000,000 Mbbl with flow rates of 14,000 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) (Tan et al, 2016). Within the oil and gas industry, igneous rocks are still seen as exploration and production challenges, due to their diverse petrogenesis and the wide range of values of some important petrophysical properties. This petrophysical variability depends on both primary and secondary processes. These facts made these rocks unattractive for decades. This condition is still observed in many fields around the world. This article has as main objective to make a historical review of studies developed globally with a focus on igneous rocks that act as a reservoir in petroleum systems. The review covered in this article was developed from a compilation of global data, thus allowing an overview of the countries that produce hydrocarbons in volcanic rocks, what types of rocks, geological age, and size of the reserve. Countries such as China and Indonesia stand out with higher daily production, exceeding orders of quantities of 108 cubic meters of gas and 104 tons of barrels of oil. In these countries, geological patterns are already being noticed in volcanic reservoirs, such as more recent geological ages and typical lithologies. Also, this work seeks to emphasize the importance of studying this type of reservoir, as its knowledge can lead to the solution of real problems within the world oil and gas industry.

Effectiveness of transient electromagnetic method (TEM) used for the localization of Pb-Zn ore bodies at the Cho Don deposit, province Bac Can, North Vietnam is appraised based on the modelling processes results. Conductive Pb-Zn ore bodies hosted in high-resistive limestone are in good conditions for the application of the TEM. The modelling process relays on the calculation of the voltage decay in time domain formed from the induced magnetic field diffusing into the study medium, when a pulse current with a given frequency is flowing in a transmitting loop coil. The model results show that the power current of 1 A transmitted from the coils with 100 or 400 m of size is effective for localization of the Zn-Pb ore bodies. However, the resolution and penetration depth of the TEM with a coil of L = 100 m is better and shorter in comparison with those in the case using the coil L = 400 m.

Well geophysics is considered as a typical method that can assist in determining the petrophysics properties of reservoirs and further location of the petroleum product-containing reservoirs. For reservoirs formed from fractured basement rock, studies on the petrophysics properties of fracture zones can contribute to the identification of petroleum products. The main aim. The study applied the cross-plotting method based on raw well-logging data to identify the possible correlation between the gamma-ray logging with well-logging including neutron porosity, sonic transient time, and bulk density in three wells (BH-433, BH-809, and BH-905) of Bach Ho field in the Cuu Long Basin, Vietnam. Methods. To deploy this study, well-logging data were integrated into formation of micro images and neutro, speed of sound, and density of the basement at the surveyed reservoir positions. Results. The results indicated that granite in the investigated zones responds to the two tight value ranges (no-oil exist zones) neutro (0,000–0,100) and speed of sound (46–64), and neutro (0,000–0,100) and density (2,375–2,750) while the value ranges deviate from 0,000–0,100, 46–64, and 2,375–2,750, respectively for neutro, speed of sound, and density are closely related to the good permeability and porosity zones (oil exist zones). Based on the findings, it can be confirmed that the cross-plotting analysis has contributed positively to the initial assessment of potential ranges of the oil reservoirs in Bach Ho field. The application of the cross-plotting method will contribute to enhancing the predictability of oil and gas in the reservoirs.
