Enhancement of remanent polarization in epitaxial BaTiO3/SrTiO3 superlattices with “asymmetric” structure

Abstract: Enhancement of remanent polarization has been demonstrated in epitaxial “asymmetric” BaTiO3/SrTiO3 strained superlattices, in which the thickness ratio of BaTiO3 to SrTiO3 layers is changed at molecular layer order accuracy. The superlattices have been prepared on Nb-doped SrTiO3 (100) single-crystal substrates by a pulsed-laser deposition technique. The superlattice with a stacking periodicity of 15 unit cells BaTiO3/3 unit cells SrTiO3 shows the largest remanent polarization 2Pr of 46 μC/cm2, which is about … Show more

“…[31][32][33][34] For subsequent simulations of defects in SrTiO 3 the volume as well as the shape of the cell are frozen. Defect calculations are performed using 2 × 2 × 2 (40 atoms) and 3 × 3 × 3 (135 atoms) simulation cells with 4 and 1 irreducible k-points, respectively, in the first Brillouin zone.…”

“…14 But the discussion of the influence of interfacial coupling strain on the electric and magnetic properties in epitaxial PZT/CFO multilayer nanocomposite is rare, unlike the deeply studied ferroelectric/ferroelectric and ferroelectric/dielectric superlattice. 7,15 In this article, the epitaxial PZT, CFO pure film, and PZT/CFO multilayers were deposited in order to give the insight into the influence of perovskite/spinel interface and residual strain on the electric and magnetic properties. The comparison of electric and magnetic between single phase and multilayers with the same volume fraction was carried out and analyzed.…”

“…As reported [9], the increase of the lattice parameter c is caused by the mismatch of the in-plane lattice parameters between BaT iO 3 /SrT iO 3 . Here we take J in > J b in order to ensure the enhancement of the polarization on the interface at a finite temperature.…”
