Enhanced Strength and Corrosion Resistance of Mg–2Zn–0.6Zr Alloy with Extrusion

Abstract: The microstructure, mechanical properties and corrosion behavior of Mg-2Zn-0.6Zr alloy under the as-cast and asextruded conditions were investigated. Microstructure analysis indicated the remarkable grain refinement by extrusion, as well as notable reductions in volume fraction and size of precipitate phases. As compared with the as-cast alloy, the asextruded alloy exhibited better mechanical performance, especially in yield strength which was promoted from 51 to 194 MPa. Refined grains, dispersive precipitate… Show more

“…Similar results have been found in the investigations of A 2 B 7 -type and AB 2 -type alloys [29,30]. The grain refinement is in favor of enhancing the strength and toughness of alloys, consequently improving their anti-pulverization capability [31]. Synthetically analyzing the XRD curves above and the EDX curves as shown in Fig.…”

“…Hence, the Sm coating favors the cell adhesion and proliferation because the pH remains below 9. 27 The corrosion rate of the bare alloy was dramatically fluctuating. The bare alloy exhibited maximum corrosion of 5.5 mm/yr at 24 h. However, it decreased as time increases because of the rise in pH.…”

“…The Mg alloy has attracted more attention due to its high specific stiffness, high specific strength and environmental and easy recycling [1,2]. The Mg alloy has been widely employed in vehicles, communication and consumer electronics industry [3][4][5]. The rapid demand for the Mg alloy results in the massive losses and waste during the manufacturing process of Mg alloy [6,7].…”
