Enhanced percutaneous delivery of recombinant human epidermal growth factor employing nano-liposome system

Abstract: We encapsulated recombinant human epidermal growth factor (rhEGF) into nano-liposomes (NLs) system for topical delivery. The rhEGF-loaded NLs were prepared using a high pressure homogenization method. Morphology and overall particle distribution of NLs were investigated using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and high resolution microscope (CytoViva™). Particle size, zeta (ζ) potential and encapsulation efficiency were measured and the percutaneous delivery of NLs was evaluated using Franz diffusion cells… Show more

“…For example in lung cancer, the deposition patterns of cisplatin aerosol therapy in surgically resected stage II lymph nodes was analyzed using hyperspectral imaging [100]. Hyperspectral imaging was also used to analyze the morphology and particle distribution of liposomes encapsulating recombinant human epidermal growth factor [101]. This type of imaging has also been utilized in patients for rapid histological classification of lung cancer type [102].…”

“…The emerging strategies for the transdermal delivery of peptide and protein drugs are summarized in an extensive review by Schuetz et al40 Several delivery systems have been proposed to serve as optimal carriers for the percutaneous delivery of growth factors;41 however, their efficacy under in vivo conditions remains to be confirmed.…”

“…Another problem is side effects such as phlebitis or tissue necrosis due to repeated injection. Thus, potential alternative delivery methods via nasal, vaginal, rectal, oral, transdermal, and buccal routes have been considered in order to find solution [2][3][4][5].…”
