ABSTRACT:Composites formed by combinations of polyethylene oxide (PEO) and sodium trifluoroacetate (CF 3 COONa) with different aluminum oxide (Al 2 O 3 ) concentrations were synthetized. Infrared (IR), Raman spectroscopy, X ray diffraction (XRD) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) analyses, were performed to characterize the composites. Changes on the XRD intensity peaks, and variations in intensity and position of some peaks in Raman and IR spectroscopy were observed for different concentrations of added Al 2 O 3 . The decrease in the XRD peaks of the PEO when it is combined with the salt, revealed that crystallinity in polymer was reduced, being lower when the alumina is added. The increase in roughness root medium square (R RMS ) observed by AFM when Al 2 O 3 was added, agree with reduction in crystallinity observed with XRD studies. Changes in the structure of PEO showed in the absorption lines IR and Raman, due to addition of CF 3 COONa salt and Al 2 O 3 filler, have been attributed to the interactions between the electrolyte and the filler. RESUMEN:Se sintetizaron compósitos formados entre polióxido de etileno (PEO) y trifluoroacetato de sodio (PEO 10 CF 3 COONa) con diferentes concentraciones de óxido de aluminio (Al 2 O 3 ). Los compósitos fueron caracterizados por espectroscopía infrarroja (IR), espectroscopía Raman, difracción de rayos X (XRD) y microscopía de fuerza atómica (AFM). Las combinaciones del electrolito sólido PEO 10 CF 3 COONa con diferentes concentraciones de Al 2 O 3 , mostraron cambios en la intensidad de los picos de XRD, así como cambios en la intensidad y posición de algunos picos de IR y Raman. El decrecimiento de los picos del PEO en XRD, cuando este fue combinado con la sal, reveló que la cristalinidad del polímero se redujo, siendo más baja cuando se le adicionó alúmina. Se observó un incremento en la raíz cuadrática media de la rugosidad (R RMS ) obtenida por microscopia de fuerza atómica cuando se adicionó Al 2 O 3. Este incremento está en concordancia con la reducción de la cristalinidad observada con estudios de XRD. Los cambios en la estructura del PEO mostrados en las líneas de absorción de IR y Raman, debidos a la adición de CF 3 COONa y Al 2 O 3 , fueron atribuidos a interacciones entre el electrolito y el relleno Al 2 O 3 .

The present paper report is focused toward the preparation of the flexible and freestanding blend solid polymer electrolyte films based on PEO-PVP complexed with NaPF6 by solution cast technique. The structural/morphological features of the synthesized polymer nanocomposite films have been investigated in detail using X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infra-red spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscope, and atomic force microscopy techniques. The film PEO-PVP+NaPF6 (Ö/Na + = 8) exhibits highest ionic conductivity ~5.92×10 -6 S cm -1 at 40 °C and ~2.46×10 -4 S cm -1 at 100 °C. The temperature dependent conductivity shows Arrhenius type behavior and activation energy decreases with the addition of salt. The high temperature (100 °C) conductivity monitoring is done for the optimized PEO-PVP+NaPF6 (Ö/Na + =8) highly conductive system and the conductivity is still maintained stable up to 160 h (approx. 7 days). The thermal transitions parameters were measured by the differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) measurements. The prepared polymer electrolyte film displays the smoother surface in addition of salt and a thermal stability up to 300 o C. The ion transference number (tion) for the highest conducting sample is found to be 0.997 and evidence that the present system is ion dominating with negligible electron contribution. Both linear sweep voltammetry and cyclic voltammetry supports the use of prepared polymer electrolyte with long-term cycle stability and thermal stability for the solid state sodium ion batteries. Finally, a two peak percolation mechanism has been proposed on the basis of experimental findings.

Cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) have been studied as compatibilizers for improving the interfacial miscibility of polymer binary blends. Binary blends of water-soluble polymers-poly(vinyl alcohol), poly(ethylene oxide), and polyvinylpyrrolidone-containing different amounts of CNC (16 and 25 wt %) were prepared by a solution casting method. For the first time, a systematic side-by-side comparison between the morphological, thermal, and mechanical properties of the polymer blends reinforced by CNC has been conducted. It has been determined that in the presence of CNC, the degree of crystallinity of the blend components decreased and the miscibility of the blends increased. The blends possess enhanced thermal and mechanical properties as a result of improved miscibility of the blend components.Poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) and poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) are water-soluble semicrystalline synthetic polymers with numerous industrial applications due to their hydrophilic, nontoxic and biocompatible properties, as well as chemical resistance and superb physical properties. 3,4 Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), a water-soluble, nontoxic, nonionic amorphous polymer, has been widely used in nanoparticles synthesis. 5 Combinations of synthetic polymers (PVA, PEO, PVP) with natural ones (cellulose derivatives, chitosan) have been investigated as solid polymer electrolytes, for some biomedical and pharmaceutical applications, and so forth. [6][7][8][9][10][11][12] PVA and PVP are well known to form a thermodynamically miscible system. 13,14 The good miscibility of PVP with PVA can be attributed to hydrogen-bonding intermolecular interactions between the carbonyl and hydroxyl groups of PVP and PVA, respectively, which are confirmed by the data of X-ray photoelectron, infrared, and high-resolution solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance ( 13 C NMR) spectroscopy. 15 Although PVP can interact with poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) through hydrogen bonding between the terminal hydroxyl groups of the Additional Supporting Information may be found in the online version of this article.
