Enhanced 4T1 Breast Carcinoma Anticancer Activity by Co-Delivery of Doxorubicin and Curcumin with Core–Shell Drug-Carrier Based on Heparin Modified Poly(L-lactide) Grafted Polyethylenimine Cationic Nanoparticles

Abstract: Use of single chemotherapy agents has shown some limitations in anti-tumor treatment, such as development of drug resistance, severe adverse reactions and limited regime for therapeutic use. Combination of two or more therapeutic drugs is a feasible strategy to overcome these limitations. This paper reports study of co-delivery by core-shell nanoparticles (NPs) with hydrophobic PLLA core loaded with curcumin (Cur) and hydrophilic heparin shell adsorbing Doxorubicin (DOX). Characterizations of Cur-PEA NPs, Cur-… Show more

“…26 Besides this, MPEG-PLA copolymer-based codelivery of Dox and paclitaxel also showed enhanced anticancer effects with an improved drug delivery system. 15 In our study, we loaded Thio-Dox into MPEG-PLA NPs by a two-step self-assembly method ( Figure 3A).…”

“…In other studies, doxorubicin and letrozole were used to treat this cancer type, too [48][49][50][51]. In one study, doxorubicin was combined with curcumin to be delivered by heparin modified poly(L-lactide) grafted polyethylenimine nanoparticles [52]. Yang et al worked on an immobilized chitosan/heparin Pluronic-coated system for the delivery of sorafenib in gastric cancers.…”

“…15 Currently, Cur is used mainly for inhibiting cancer in a variety of cell lines, and has expressed obvious antitumor effects, eg, in breast cancer and ovarian cancer. 16,17 Therefore, we chose Cur and Sal B as synergistic antitumor drugs, while Sal B also played a role in protecting myocardial damage caused by TiO 2 NPs.…”
