Engineering and Economic Evaluation of a Prototype Fabricated for Harvesting Sugarcane

Abstract: A sugarcane harvester prototype was fabricated and evaluated to save time, labor, and harvesting expenses, which are included in production costs. The single-row harvester prototype fits the functional needs of the physical qualities of sugarcane and was designed to be installed on a tractor. One serrated edge cutter disc, three forward speeds, and three cutter disc speeds were used to evaluate the performance of the fabricated sugarcane harvester. The results of the technical evaluation showed that the averag… Show more

“…A key element influencing the amount of cutting force and power needed is the form of the cutting blade 15 . Compared to smooth knives, serrated knives had improved cut quality and cutting power, but the invisible loss was higher 3 , 16 18 . Liu et al 16 , and Srivastava et al 19 investigated that the pressure of the cutting device initially causes a permanent deformation in the SS, which depends on the time of contact, knife thickness, and characteristics of the cutting device, which causes a break of the SS fiber.…”
