Energy optimization based on the redundancy in WSNs

Abstract: OATAO is an open access repository that collects the work of Toulouse researchers and makes it freely available over the web where possible. Abstract-Almost all WSNs (Wireless Sensor Networks) are deployed with some redundancy degree and redundancy is used only for robustness objectives. If not handled in an intelligent way, redundancy results in energy wasting because of (often unnecessary) redundant transmission and reception operations. We propose to take benefit from measurement redundancy to optimize the … Show more

“…However, most of the data aggregation protocols do not deal properly with suddenly failing of the Cluster Head. On the other hand, the MR‐LEACH protocol 125 merges the geographical closeness of the nodes with the measurement redundancy, so redundant nodes are aggregated regarding their redundancy and only one node transmits data in each group 126 . However, MR‐LEACH does not take into account event triggering, also it is initial deployment does not comprise explicit redundancy.…”

“…Gaussian distribution also supports node mobility. (Diane et.al., 2013) [64] suggested a measurement redundancy aware LEACH (MR-LEACH) which uses grouping of nodes based on the geographical location. At the time of data aggregation by CH node the information received by any node belonging to the same group processed without receiving the data from other nodes of that group.…”

“…MR-LEACH [6] uses a clustering technique based on the geographical proximity of nodes. This technique allows the grouping of nodes having the same measurement so that only representative nodes send their data.…”
