Energy-optimal routes for electric vehicles

Abstract: Abstract. We study the problem of electric vehicle route planning, where an important aspect is computing paths that minimize energy consumption. Thereby, any method must cope with specific properties, such as recuperation, battery constraints (over-and under-charging), and frequently changing cost functions (e. g., due to weather conditions). This work presents a practical algorithm that quickly computes energy-optimal routes for networks of continental scale. Exploiting multi-level overlay graphs [26,31], we… Show more

“…For example, charging EVs when the electricity price is low results in reduced charging cost, and charging EVs when the charging rate is high will reduce charging time. The second thread is EV routing and examples studies include [42,43,44]. As to the routing problem for fuel-based vehicles, it usually needs to consider only two factors: fuel price and travel distance/time to gas stations.…”

“…In this study, while all variables in Oliver's EDT are retained as the base of model, risk perception (RP) is proposed to moderate CS-RI relationship. Baron and Kenny recommend adding a variable as a moderator when findings on the relationship between variables are inconsistent [24]. Further, Oliver and Burke had also recommended modification of the EDT model which is discussed in the next section [13].…”
