Energy Management with Support of PV Partial Shading Modelling in Micro Grid Environments

Abstract: Although photovoltaic power plants are suitable local energy sources in Micro Grid environments, when large plants are involved, partial shading and inaccurate modelling of the plant can affect both the design of the Micro Grid as well as the energy management process that allows for lowering the overall Micro Grid demand towards the main grid. To investigate the issue, a Photovoltaic Plant simulation model, based on a real life power plant, and an energy management system, based on a real life Micro Grid envi… Show more

“…Al-Mawali et al [60], Al-Sarihi [61], and Hamid et al [60] argued that Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) is an alliance of six Middle Eastern countries, including Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. These countries are known for their vast reserves of oil and natural gas, which have been the backbone of their economies for decades.…”

“…Since the aggregator performs the scheduling of resources for the day-ahead (i.e., the next 24 hours), it relays in the forecast of weather conditions (to predict renewable generation), load demand, EV trips, and market prices. However, the assumption of perfect or highly accurate forecast might bring unforeseen consequences into the operation of the grid when the realizations do not follow the expected predictions [5]. Due to this situation, it is desired that the aggregator determines solutions that are robust to the uncertainty inherent in some parameters and the environment.…”

“…The classification of shading types considered in this paper is more comprehensive than that presented by [22] as it also considers the changing irradiance due to cloud cover and time of day as a type of shading phenomenon. The approach of using 1 min solar data and matrices to provide a shading factor for each module to model the different shading on modules has been considered by [23] however, in their paper the main shading effects considered relate more so to transient PSC defined above. The purpose of the study presented in this paper is to enable the effects of constant, static and transient PSC on the location of the GMPP voltage to be isolated and quantified.…”
