Energy-harvesting powered transmissions of delay-limited data packets

Abstract: This paper develops novel approaches for energyharvesting powered transmissions of delay-limited busty data packets under both ideal and non-ideal circuit power consumption. It is shown that the problems can be formulated as convex programs. Relying on the specific structure of the optimality conditions, we put forth efficient algorithms to find the optimal transmission strategies with a low computational complexity. It is revealed that the optimal energy departure curve for the ideal circuit power case can be… Show more

“…Rules 1 and 2 still hold after replacing "transmit power" with "water-level" [65]. Here the water-levels are defined as [13], [14], [67], [69] [65], [70] Time-varying channel [64], [68], [71], [72] [73]- [77] [64]…”

“…In a different yet relevant context, a range of energy-efficient transmission schemes have been developed for 5G systems. In [5], a string tautening algorithm was proposed to produce the most energy-efficient schedule for delay-limited traffic, first under the assumption of negligible circuit power, and then extended to non-negligible constant circuit powers [6], [7] and energy-harvesting communications [8], [9]. Particularly, coordinated multi-point (CoMP) enables BSs to collaborate for effective inter-cell interference management, thereby substantially improving the energy efficiency of 5G.…”

“…When compared to the proposed algorithm, a significant loss of data and energy efficiency could occur when the schedule generated in [20] is applied in the case of non-ideal circuit power consumption (as will be shown in Section VI). In [21], we gave a brief introduction on the concept of the new algorithm without providing technical details. In this paper, the full technical details are provided, and the optimality is rigorously proved.…”
