Energy Efficiency as Precondition of Energy Security

Abstract: Increase of energy efficiency remains as one of the major strategic objectives in Lithuania. Effective use of existing energy saving potential increases energy security and reduces emissions of greenhouse gas and other pollutants. In order to meet the growing energy demand and to reduce the negative impact of the energy sector on environment, increase of the role of renewable energy sources in the country's primary energy balance, as well as larger deployment of energy-efficient and smart technologies in all a… Show more

“…This assumption is based on economic law of universal converging. Besides we assume that energy efficiency would gradually increase, and respectively energy intensity would diminish due to technological progress and energy stewardship behavior (Tvaronavičienė 2012; Dudzevičiūtė et al 2014;Laužikas et al 2015, Grubicka, Matuska 2015Ala-Juusela et al 2014;Dobele et al 2015;Olaniyi, Reidolf 2015;Oganisjana, Surikova 2015;Tvaronavičienė, Černevičiūtė 2015;Leonavičius et al 2015;Baublys et al 2015;Ignatavičius et al 2015).…”

“…The cases (McKenzie-Mohr, 2000) provide a range of evidence on non-significant impact of energy efficiency campaigns. In economic literature this phenomenon is called Energy Efficiency Paradox when users neglect cost-effective opportunities and do not take logical measures at current energy prices to decrease their spending on energy (Baublys, Miškinis, Konstantinavičiūtė, & Lekavičius, 2015;Ramos, Gago, Labandeira, & Linares, 2015). It is clear that information about economic benefit is not enough to change users' behaviour.…”

“…Fossil fuels demand has grown faster due to economic development and the increase in the world's population [1][2][3][4]. Subsidized energy and the nonintegrated relationship between fuels consumption and vehicle production in Iran increases the consumption of fossil fuels [5][6][7][8].…”
