In supporting United Nation Sustainable Development Goal (SDG), the government of Malaysia has implemented policy and initiative to improve energy efficiency. In spite of these initiates, the electricity consumption has increased yearly as reported by Malaysia Energy Commission (MEC). Hence, this study aims to (1) investigate factor on awareness in energy consumption and efficiency of residential users and their motivation to change their consumption behavior, and (2) examine the relationship between satisfaction of residential users as the moderating factor to their motivation to change user consumption behavior. A total of 400 residential energy users have participated in the survey and data was analyzed using Smart PLS. Results indicated that consumer awareness of monthly electrical bill and satisfaction towards energy efficient product has positive effect on consumer motivation about current energy issue. This may indicate that the increase in monthly electricity bill has an effect on consumer awareness on their electrical consumption. In addition, consumer satisfaction towards energy efficient product leads to higher motivation level of users to modify their energy consumption behavior.

Since the light control module and communication module connected by the CAN bus, the traditional and centralized lighting control system has a high cost of maintenance. Meanwhile, the connecting way relied on the CAN bus is hard to achieve energy saving. It’s entirely possible to improve the efficiency by using the design of distributed non-central platform, we proposed a new lighting control simulation system based on the natural illumination model and the personnel movement model. Considering that all influencing factors of the real light environment, this paper calculated the illumination of light source on the working surface and the natural illumination in the room by the method of azimuth coefficient and boundary integral. Furthermore, in order to decrease energy consumption, we introduced the Markov transfer matrix to describe the position changes of staff to control the light intensity of the office. Though the simulation results, the proposed lighting control system in this paper is demonstrated that can save more lighting energy consumption in comparison with traditional and centralized lighting control system.

Abstract. Most energy efficiency (EE) measures implemented (or yet to be implemented) in Malaysia involve technological interventions, but it will rely on consumer behaviour including their awareness in energy consumption. This paper highlight the energy-saving awareness among consumers for residential houses which involves two main components: i) knowledge and ii) practice. The method for this study is using the questionnaires of 408 respondents from four zones in Peninsular Malaysia. Pearson Correlation analysis technique was used to examine the relationship of several variables with electricity saving awareness. The results of the analysis found that the both components, knowledge and practice have a significant relationship with consumer awareness. It shows that both components are very important to ensure the awareness of EE will be implemented by the consumer.
