Energy-aware Restricted Access Window control with retransmission scheme for IEEE 802.11ah (Wi-Fi HaLow) based networks

Abstract: Restricted Access Window (RAW) has been introduced to IEEE 802.11ah MAC layer to decrease collision probability. However, the inappropriate application of RAW for different groups of devices would increase uplink energy consumption and decrease data rate. In this paper, we study an energy efficient RAW optimization problem for IEEE 802.11ah based uplink communications. We first present a novel retransmission scheme that utilizes the nextt empty slot to retransmit for collided devices, and formulate the problem… Show more

“…The LPWANs are covering a certain part of the use-cases of IQRF, but the most appropriate technology for a comparison is the private LoRaWAN from this group (or proprietary LoRa-based systems). Moreover, there are technologies with a similar approach, i.e., ZigBee, BlueTooth [44], or even Wi-Fi (Wi-Fi HaLow) [45]. However, the comparison with these technologies is missing in the article, same as a clear insight into the IQRF field.…”

“…Le Tian, et al 22 conduct a simulation study of the RAW mechanism of IEEE 802.11ah-based M2M network and recommend that careful choice of RAW parameters is required for maximizing the network performance. Y. Wang et al 23 consider adjusting the RAW duration for different group sizes in IEEE 802.11ah-based networks to optimize uplink energy efficiency. In 24 , the authors use an approach based on a mean value analysis to evaluate the performance of the group synchronized DCF protocol in IEEE 802.11ah networks.…”
