Energy and Exergy Analysis of Dieng Geothermal Power Plant

Abstract: Energy and exergy analyses are conducted at the Dieng Geothermal Power Plant to determine the energy loss of components by calculating the efficiency, rate of change in energy flow, and exergy loss of each component. The data were collected on each component, including production wells, turbines, the main condenser, inter-condensers, and cooling towers, with the data collection occurring from April 2017 to March 2018. Energy and exergy analyses begin by calculating the enthalpy and entropy of both input and ou… Show more

“…Distributed energy resources can be in different forms, including natural gas-fueled generators, solar panels, and electric vehicles (Pallett, 2017). The demonstrable prototype of any of the forms can be modeled as a small-scale energy source, such as a small-scale biofuel system or a geothermal plant, to the proportionate consuming loads while the management is also highlighted (Münz and Wu, 2021;Qurrahman et al, 2021;Smirnova et al, 2021).…”

“…One of the geothermal power plants (GPP) in Indonesia is the Dieng Geothermal Power Plant in Dieng, Central Java, Indonesia. Geothermal Power Plant (GPP) utilizes single-flash steam system technology, which is indicated by the largescale use of brine found in geothermal wells [36]. The process flow diagram for the single-flash system at the Dieng Geothermal Power Plant is shown in Fig.…”

“…However, in recent years, exergy analysis based on the second law of thermodynamics has been applied in the performance evaluation of thermal power plants, i.e., geothermal power plants [8][9][10], steam power plant [11][12][13][14][15], gas turbine power plant [16][17], combined cycled power plant [18]. Unlike energy analysis, exergy analysis considers energy destruction by entropy generation, which is caused by the imperfect material microstructure or temperature difference, to evaluate energy quality and to track energy losses in the system.…”
